I have created a gif file in MathType that I want to paste in the media section of a basic screen.  When I paste it, it's huge and the edges are rough.

Is there a way to resize the image so that it looks more like the original? 

The best way to handle small images (and keep them small) is to use the Rich Text Only template, and use the "insert image" function to place your image in the body of the text (you can resize your image here).  This template actually gives you the greatest flexibility for media placement.
