video will not play over intranet

     05-09-2008, 12:32 PM

Back again to bang my head against yet another wall. <g>

I have a video as part of one of my training packages. I extracted it & put it in a folder on a network drive at work where our intranet web server accesses the files for company-wide viewing. The whole thing works great directly from the network drive but the video will not play via the intranet. (I also uploaded it to a comercial internet web server & the video works fine.) Our IT guy is stumped. Anybody have a guess how to resolve this?

Ours is a Microsoft house so I'm quite sure we're running IIS server.

By default, IIS 6 doesn't have the .flv mime type (all video in myUdutu courses get converted to .flv, which is the Flash video format).  All that needs to be done is to go into IIS, tab to 'HTTP Headers', and add a new MIME type.  The extension will be '.flv', and the mime type is: 'flv-application/octet-stream'

You will need to restart IIS for the change to take effect.

Let me know if this solves your problem,

    Kris,

Thanks for the info. That was just the ticket! Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I had to wait for IS to reboot the server as we had critical systems running that would not like us rebooting just any time!!
